Shawn Levy says he won't forget watching game with Taylor Swift (2024)

Shawn Levy reminisced about watching aKansas City Chiefs vs New York Jets game with Taylor Swift, saying he won't forget the experience anytime soon.

The Deadpool & Wolverine director, 55, attended the game last October with a group of friends that included the Bad Blood hitmaker, 34, who is dating Chiefs star Travis Kelce, 34, as well as the stars of his latest movie, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

'I'll tell you this, watching a football game with Taylor is different than just watching a football game,'Levy told Peopleat the premiere of his new film on Monday.

'Yeah, the uptick in recognizability [that] came about at that football game... [I] was not counting on that,' he said, adding, 'Was not counting on it at all.'

'I'm definitely going to forget a lot of football games that I've watched in my life, not that one,' he concluded.

The filmmaker previously described the experience as 'depressing' in October, in an interview with Variety.

'It's almost depressing, by the way — I could make 50 more hit movies and shows and I'll still be known as the guy in the orange suede jacket going to the Chiefs-Jets game with Taylor and others.'

He also described the songstress as 'a culture magnet unlike anything I've seen.'

Levy had been invited by Reynolds — whose wife Blake Lively was also in attendance — to what he anticipated would be a guys' night out at MetLife Stadium.

He explained, 'It was as simple as, "Wait, we can go to an NFL game with our buddies? Let’s do it."' He noted, 'We had a glimmer that maybe there would be others but nothing prepared us for the frenzy of attention that was that outing.'

Despite the unexpected spotlight on him and his friends, the Stranger Things director called it a 'very fun night.'

He later emphasized, 'I've known famous people but Taylor is definitely a culture magnet unlike anything I’ve seen.'

The Adam Project director recalled, 'I think I might have said to Ryan and Blake [Lively] on the ride to the stadium... I’m like, "I've never been more conscious of being careful of what I say," because if you’re going to a football game in a box with Taylor, you pretty much have to assume that you are on camera all the time and they’re capable of slow motion so they can definitely read lips.'

He added playfully: 'So, I kept it clean.'

Joining the group in the high-profile box suite were Sabrina Carpenter and Sophie Turner.

Following the game, Levy joked on Instagram that 'all future Sunday nights are ruined.'

He continued to show his great sense of humor as he added: 'Apparently there was also a football game played last night.'

The director is staying busy with projects, and on Monday he attended the star-studded premiere of his new film, along with Reynolds, the man behind Deadpool, his stunning wife Blake who wore a Deadpool-inspired look, and Jackman, who is reprising his role as Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine is the third film in the popular Deadpool franchise that's been a hit at the worldwide box office.

Deadpool was released in 2016 and went on to gross $782.8 million against a budget of $58 million.

The sequel, Deadpool 2 (2018), was as big a hit with fans, in term of the moneymaking, Raking in $785.8 million while working with a budget of $110 million.

Deadpool & Wolverine stars Jackman, as James 'Logan' Howlett / Wolverine, after playing him for the first time more than two decades ago.

Most recently, he played the iconic role in Logan (2017), which also went on to be a smash hit earning $619.2 million after spending $97-127 million on the budget.

The two previous franchise films started with X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and The Wolverine (2013), both of which were successful at the box office, although neither of them topped the $415 million mark.

Jackman also played Logan/Wolverine in the ensemble casts in X-Men (2000), X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014).

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to drop in theaters on July 26.
